Urging Hertfordshire County Council to act on road safety recommendations

Alistair Strathern, MP for Hitchin, is urging Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) to move swiftly to improve safety at some of Hitchin's busiest junctions, following several accidents in the last week. 

Strathern is calling for action to improve safety at the Charlton Road/A602 junction once and for all - a long-standing concern for local residents and road users. Just in the last week, the junction has seen two serious accidents. 

After a longstanding calls from concerned residents, and supported by Strathern, Hertfordshire County Council reduced the speed limit on the affected road to 40mph, however, Strathern believes continued accidents highlight the need for further action. 

Alongside this call, Strathern has launched a petition to highlight the strength of feeling on the issue which residents can sign here. 

Alistair Strathern MP said:

"Residents have raised concerns about these roads for years, particularly around the Willow Lane and A602 junction, where many people feel conditions are simply not safe enough.

"While the reduction in speed limit after our calls was a welcome change, continued accidents show it is clearly not enough.

"After countless conversations and surveys, it's time for action. Continued accidents on the road highlight why we can't afford any further delay. Hertfordshire Highways need to finally prioritise making this junction safe for all who use it in Hitchin and beyond."
