Alistair Strathern, MP for Hitchin, has urged Hertfordshire County Council to use £5.6m in additional investment funding from the government to tackle ‘long overlooked’ priorities in Hitchin, including progressing a link road for the industrial estate at the north of the town and delivering eastern access at Hitchin Station.

The government announced £5.6m in additional capital funding for Hertfordshire to drive growth and opportunities for the region next year. It follows representations from Alistair and other Labour MPs to secure funding for the county.

Alistair is urging the council to ensure this funding is used to push forward priorities for his constituency of Hitchin, including eastern access at Hitchin Station and progressing consideration of a link road for the north of the town.

He has been working with the county and district councils to progress both these projects since he was first elected. It's hoped they would ease pressures on the town's road network and improve access to the train station.

Alistair Strathern said: “When I was first elected, local priorities like eastern access and a link road for the north of the town had been overlooked for far too long.

“This wasn’t good enough, so I’ve been working closely with our councils to push these long overdue projects forward.

“I’m delighted we’ve been able to secure £5.6m of new funding for Hertfordshire to invest in growth projects like these.

“I’m urging Hertfordshire to use this funding to help move these projects forward. Eastern access at Hitchin Station and a link road are vital projects to make it easier for our community to get around the town.

“Working together we’ve already made progress, now let’s use this new funding to really crack on and deliver for Hitchin.”
