More funding secured for Garden House Hospice
PRESS RELEASE FROM ALISTAIR STRATHERN MP
THURSDAY 24th SEPTEMBER 2026
Alistair Strathern, MP for the Hitchin constituency, has welcomed news that Garden House Hospice will receive £150,000 in transitional funding from the local Integrated Care Board (ICB), helping to support the hospice as it works towards a sustainable long-term future.
Strathern has met with Garden House several times at their site and in Westminster, helping secure previous investment and support for the hospice. In recognition of ongoing pressures facing hospices, he has continued to raise their situation with Ministers as well as the local ICB, campaigning for extra support.
This announcement follows ongoing engagement between the hospice, the NHS and Strathern. Strathern is working with Ministers, MPs and the NHS to strengthen collaboration between hospices, improve consistency of services, and ensure long-term sustainability across the sector.
Alistair Strathern MP said:
"Garden House Hospice provides outstanding care and support to patients and families across our community at some of the most difficult times in their lives. I know many local residents will be relieved to hear that this £150,000 package has been agreed to help continue to support Garden House.
"I have repeatedly been championing the need to invest in supporting Garden House directly with Ministers and NHS leaders, and I am pleased to see this further positive step. While this funding is only one step forward, it provides important stability and breathing space.
"I will continue working closely with Garden House Hospice, the ICB and local partners to ensure the hospice has the support it needs to continue delivering its exceptional services for local people.
"Rest assured, as our MP I'll be continuing to champion the need for great national investment and support for palliative care for our community and right across the country."
